What is the GSDC?
The Global Space Design Challenge is a multidisciplinary competition designed to be a simulation of life in industry. Students from around the world are combined to form an engineering company and take on the task of designing a crewed space settlement within our solar system.
Set between 40 and 80 years in the future, students can lose themselves in the elaborate and expansive SDC universe. Participants must use a mix of custom designs and existing services provided by subcontractors and other settlements to create their proposals. Each company presents their proposal to deliver the vision of a space settlement outlined in the Request for Proposal (RfP) to a panel of experts from industry and academia.
Open to high school students aged 15-18, the GSDC provides participants with a taste of the vast potential offered by future study of STEAM subjects through this fun and engaging simulation of a career in the industry. The technical, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills gained by participants through the GSDC serve as the foundation of their belief in sharing their talents with the world!
Compete for a place at the prestigious ISSDC at NASA Kennedy Space Center!
The GSDC is part of a global family of SDC partners running events across North America, Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe. These competitions culminate in the International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) on the 26th-29th July 2024 at NASA Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral in Florida.
A select team of 8 students from the winning company of the GSDC 2024 Finals are invited to compete in the NASA Finals!
This trip to the ISSDC 2024 Finals normally involves a couple of days of spectacular space sightseeing in a location that has been the home of human spaceflight for over 60 years!
Note: The students invited to the ISSDC in Orlando, Florida, USA must fund their travel expenses. Students will not have to pay for accommodation, food (except dinner on Friday 26th July and Monday 29th July of the competition) and ground transportation from Friday 26th July to Tuesday 30th July of the ISSDC. You can register as an individual or as a team of up to 8 participants. You will be grouped with other participants to form a company at the GSDC Finals.
The individual entrance fee to the GSDC 2024 Final is £145 per person. Register as a team and get a discount on the price per person! Included in your entrance fee are the following:
- A reserved place at the GSDC 2024 Finals.
- Support from industry experts who have competed worldwide and at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
- A certificate of completion.
Participants of the GSDC 2024 Finals must be:
- Enrolled in full-time high school education.
- 15-18 years old.
- Confident or fluent in speaking English.
- Located in timezones between GMT+0 and GMT+8

No, you do not require any previous experience to participate in the GSDC 2024 Finals. Entry is open to participants who comply with the following criteria:
